From Tuesday 22nd September 2020, the NHS has opened drive-through flu vaccination clinics at IKEA off the Purley Way and Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park stadium, offering more people than ever a free vaccine.
Dr Gaj Sivadhas, the chair of Croydon GP Collaborative, explained that the vaccination clinics will use the car parks at IKEA and Crystal Palace “to give patients the flu vaccination in the safety and comfort of their own car. We strongly urge eligible Croydon patients to contact their GP practice to book an appointment at their practice or at another location to protect themselves, their family and our community.”
A free flu vaccine will be available to:
The NHS across all the boroughs in south-west London has implemented extended clinic times and using convenient non-traditional locations in the effort to get as many people vaccinated as possible.
Dr Gaj Sivadhas continued "we are thrilled to be working with IKEA to use their underground car park and Palace for Life Foundation, the official charity of Crystal Palace FC, to provide flu clinics to give patients the flu vaccination in the safety and comfort of their own car.
"With the good transport links from the local tram stop, people are also able to attend this site by use of public transport, bikes or on foot.
“We strongly urge eligible Croydon patients to contact their GP practice to book an appointment at their practice or at another location to protect themselves, their family and our community."
Ms Gill Biju, the CEO of Croydon GP Collaborative provided up to date news on how the service is running "for participating practices, their administrators and nurses, has each booked in and vaccinated an average of 94 patients over each 3 hour session, this really shows how an initiative solution has proven to be both an effective and efficient service for Croydon's patients. For those patients who do not have access to private transport, practices are also advising and actively encouraging patients to take public transport, the solution also supports a walk-in service."
Ms Karen Northwood, Managing Partner at Friends Road Medical Practice, told the Croydon GP Collaborative “I just thought that I would let you know that we have had a lot of positive feedback from our patients regarding the Drive Through Flu Clinic and a couple of our patients even took the time to post their comments on line, please see below. Thanks again for all your help with this.”

"My wife and I phoned and requested flu vaccinations and were given timed appointments within 48 hours at the Ikea underground carpark site. Despite arriving 30 minutes early, we were processed immediately and had our vaccinations administered in a prompt, friendly and painless manner by the excellent staff on site. The whole process was seamless and extremely efficient. Well done on organising such an impressive and important service to your patients."
